Don’t Lose God’s Grace

“Those who cling to worthless idols forfeit the grace that could be theirs” (Jonah 2:8 NIV).
When we make anything in our lives more important than God, we are missing out on the blessing He has for us. As the Israelites learned, God desires that He alone be first—only then can He pour out His abounding grace in our hearts and lives.
Jonah’s message to the Israelites was…turn away from idols and serve the One, true God. This message still applies today—we need to destroy our idols and serve God! We put things ahead of God, don’t we? We make idols of relationships…physical pleasure or comfort…our own agendas…and even the work we do for His kingdom! Things become “idols” when they are more “urgent” than our relationship with God.
As Jonah warned, when we place anything before God, we forfeit the grace that could be ours. Let’s not be distracted from serving and worshiping the authentic God and miss out on the grace that could be ours. We need His grace too much to worship anything but Him!Dear heavenly Father, please reveal my “idols,” and give me the grace to align things according to Your will and authority, in Jesus’ name, amen.
